A leading food manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Packaging Technologist with strong experience in packaging development, material specification, and compliance to join their team in Ophirton, Johannesburg. The role focuses on ensuring packaging solutions meet quality, safety, cost, and sustainability requirements while supporting manufacturing and product innovation objectives.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, evaluate, and approve packaging materials and specifications for new and existing products

• Ensure packaging complies with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards

• Support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging

• Conduct packaging trials, validations, and performance testing

• Liaise with suppliers regarding packaging materials, quality issues, and innovation

• Provide technical support to production and quality teams on packaging-related matters

• Investigate and resolve packaging non-conformances and customer complaints

• Drive cost optimisation and efficiency improvements within packaging systems

• Maintain accurate packaging documentation and technical records

Requirements:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Packaging Technology, Food Technology, Engineering, or a related field

• Proven experience in a packaging technologist or similar role within a manufacturing or FMCG environment

• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, processes, and food safety standards

• Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional teams

• Ability to conduct trials, analyse data, and implement improvements

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills
