Job Description

Hire Resolve's client is looking for a Mainframe Assembler Developer to join their team in Cape Town, WC. This role involves collaborating within a development team to troubleshoot, enhance, and maintain complex mainframe applications, contributing to continuous improvements and ensuring system stability.

Responsibilities: 
  • Develop, modify, and maintain Assembler-based mainframe applications.
  • Code, test, debug, and document Assembler programs according to specifications and coding standards.
  • Work with business analysts and stakeholders to understand application requirements, providing technical solutions and recommendations.
  • Conduct performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization to ensure high efficiency and reliability.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, testing plans, and release notes.
  • Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) from analysis and design through implementation and post-deployment support.
  • Ensure integration compatibility between mainframe applications and other business systems.
  • Maintain compliance with security and regulatory standards, especially regarding data handling and access control.
Requirements 
  • Assembler Language: Strong expertise in writing, debugging, and maintaining Assembler programs for mainframe systems.
  • Mainframe Technologies: Proficiency with IBM z/OS, JCL (Job Control Language), TSO/ISPF, VSAM, CICS, DB2, and MQ Series.
  • Performance Tuning: Proven experience optimizing Assembler programs and addressing performance-related issues in mainframe applications.
  • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): Experience with both Waterfall and Agile methodologies for mainframe systems development.
  • Batch & Online Processing: Hands-on experience with both batch job and online transaction processing in a mainframe environment.

Desired Skills:

  • COBOL and PL/I: Familiarity with additional mainframe languages such as COBOL and PL/I.
  • Database Management: Knowledge of DB2 and IMS DB/DC mainframe database environments.
  • Tools & Utilities: Experience with mainframe development tools, including Control-M, File-AID, Expeditor, and CA Endevor.
  • Sector Experience: Knowledge of financial, insurance, or government systems can be beneficial.
  • Project Support Tools: Familiarity with task management and tracking tools like Jira.
