Responsibilities:
- Oversee and ensure the delivery of safe, cost-effective, and quality patient care in line with clinical governance standards and evidence-based practices.
- Evaluate nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
- Coordinate training, development, and mentoring programs for nursing staff to enhance their skills and professional growth.
- Monitor staff performance, manage attendance, and ensure adequate coverage in the unit at all times.
- Manage unit activities, including addressing irregularities and policy violations, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, policies, and relevant healthcare legislation.
- Control and monitor the use of drugs and emergency stock in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Identify opportunities for quality improvement and develop strategies to enhance patient care services.
- Participate in the implementation of National Core Standards and other quality initiatives.
- Conduct patient rounds regularly to ensure a high standard of customer-centric service.
- Foster effective working relationships with medical practitioners, hospital management, patients, and other stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding care plans and progress.
- Diploma in General Nursing or a Bachelor of Nursing (B Cur) degree.
- Post-basic qualification in Critical Care Nursing is essential.
- Additional qualification in Nursing Management is advantageous.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse
- A minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience in ICU settings.
- At least 1 year of experience in a management or senior supervisory role within a hospital environment.
