Job Description

A well-established property development and management group operating in Cape Town, is currently seeking a Safety Officer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the effective management of Health and Safety on site, ensuring full adherence to regulations both physically and administratively, and implementing the Health & Safety plan across contract works in the civil engineering/construction environment.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing Health and Safety on site; ensure all sites fully adhere to H&S regulations.

  • Ensure proper implementation of the Health and Safety plan.

  • Report and record all accidents / incidents.

  • Identify training requirements and scarce skills for the workforce; conduct internal training where needed.

  • Develop and implement H&S management systems for a group of companies, in cohesion with ISO management systems.

  • Generate Health and Safety Files for contract works.

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures for all contract and emergency works.

  • Investigate incidents / accidents.

  • Liaise between clients, principal contractors, subcontractors, etc.

  • Conduct compliance audits on all contractors, site conditions & H&S systems.

  • Perform site inspections via online platform and action findings accordingly.

  • Compile all required Health & Safety documentation, including:

    • Site-specific Safety Plans

    • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessments

    • Fall Protection Plans

    • Method Statements

    • Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)

    • Emergency Preparedness Instructions

    • Any other relevant documentation


Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in Health & Safety or related field.

  • Registered (or candidate) with SACPCMP as a Construction Health and Safety Officer.

  • At least 1 year of experience in a civil engineering / construction environment.

  • Basic knowledge of the Health & Safety Acts and regulations relevant to the construction and civil engineering field.

  • Valid driver’s license.
