A leading manufacturing organisation within the sugar and agro-processing sector is seeking a suitably qualified and self-motivated Front-End Engineer to join its operations at Noodsberg Mill.
This is a demanding and rewarding role, responsible for the mechanical and operational performance of the Front-End Department, which includes cane receiving, cane preparation, extraction (milling tandem), and oversight of the machine shop servicing the entire factory

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, aligned with legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
- Promote and enforce a People-Driven Safety culture within the Front-End Department.
- Develop, lead, and maintain a competent, motivated workforce, empowering teams to achieve departmental objectives.
- Monitor and control operational and maintenance KPIs, driving accountability and continuous improvement.
- Maximise cane throughput, proactively identifying and eliminating bottlenecks while minimising breakdowns.
- Lead large-scale improvement and capital projects, motivating budget requirements through sound business cases.
- Ensure plant and machinery are maintained to required standards at the lowest sustainable cost.
- Enhance asset care practices through disciplined implementation of IAMP initiatives.
- Perform engineering standby duties for the entire factory and stand in for other sections (e.g. Steam Generation) as required.
Minimum Requirements
- BSc Eng, BEng or BTech in Mechanical Engineering
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – advantageous
- Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a heavy engineering or industrial environment
- Sugar mill operational experience, with sound understanding of milling theory (highly advantageous)
- Proven leadership capability with a solid performance track record
- Self-driven, results-oriented, and able to manage a broad operational portfolio
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels
