Job Description

A leading engineering and manufacturing firm is seeking a highly skilled Site Manager for a critical Waste Heat Boiler Coil replacement project. This is a high-intensity, short-duration contract role focused on the removal and on-site welding of boiler coils during a major refinery shutdown.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the planning, coordination, and execution of site activities, ensuring all work is completed safely, on schedule, and in strict accordance with ASME/API codes and OHS standards.


Key Responsibilities

1. Site Execution & Coordination

  • Direct day-to-day site operations, including the removal of existing boiler tubes/coils and the installation of new units.

  • Manage fit-up, welding, NDT, PWHT, and final reinstatement.

  • Liaise with refinery operations, maintenance teams, and third-party inspectors.

2. Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE)

  • Legal Appointment: Act as the formal Construction Regulation 8.1 Appointee, assuming all associated legal duties.

  • Enforce strict compliance with the OHS Act (Act 85 of 1993) and refinery permit-to-work systems.

  • Lead daily toolbox talks, JHA’s, and manage high-risk activities (confined space, hot work, LOTO).

3. Quality & Schedule Management

  • Ensure all welding aligns with approved WPS and welder qualifications.

  • Manage NDT activities, punch lists, and project data books.

  • Monitor productivity and manpower to ensure the project meets the critical shutdown window.

4. Resource & Stakeholder Interface

  • Lead a team of supervisors, artisans, welders, and riggers.

  • Act as the primary interface with the client and refinery representatives during daily progress meetings.


Requirements

  • Education: Trade Qualification (Boilermaker/Mechanical) OR a Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.

  • Experience: 8–10 years of mechanical construction experience specifically within the Oil & Gas, Refinery, or Petrochemical sectors.

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of boiler systems, on-site welding, NDT procedures, and refinery shutdown environments.

  • Compliance: Expert knowledge of Construction Regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.


Project Duration & Shifts

Candidates must be available for the following schedule:

  • 9 Feb 2026 – 31 Mar 2026: On-site (Alternating Day/Night shifts, 12 hours, 7 days/week).
