A leading chemical manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in hazardous environments such as chemical or petrochemical plants to join their team in Durban. The role focuses on ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of mechanical systems within a high-risk production environment, with an alternative opportunity available for a more senior Site Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and optimize mechanical equipment and systems within a hazardous manufacturing environment
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime
Support production teams with technical expertise and troubleshooting
Manage and improve asset reliability and performance
Oversee contractors and maintenance activities on-site
Contribute to continuous improvement and engineering projects
For senior candidates: lead site engineering functions and manage engineering teams
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (from a recognized university)
3–5 years’ experience in chemical, petrochemical, or similar hazardous manufacturing environments
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, maintenance, and safety standards
Experience working in high-risk industrial environments
GCC is not required
For Site Engineering Manager role: additional leadership and management experience required
Must be willing to be based in or relocate to Durban
