Job Description

A leading advanced audio technology company focused on next-generation acoustic innovation is looking for an experienced Principal Audio Systems Architect & DSP Expert with strong experience in active noise cancellation (ANC), digital signal processing, spatial audio systems, and AI-driven audio technologies to join their team in Knysna. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and developing proprietary audio technologies for high-performance environments, leading the architecture of complex audio systems that integrate machine learning, advanced DSP, and hardware-software co-design. This role requires deep technical expertise in real-time audio processing, acoustic engineering, and embedded system optimization.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of proprietary Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technologies for advanced audio applications.

  • Design and implement AI-driven audio processing systems for real-time deployment.

  • Architect advanced spatial audio systems, including object-based audio and immersive sound staging.

  • Develop bio-sensor synthesis technologies integrated into audio platforms.

  • Contribute to and guide the company’s IP and patent strategy related to audio and signal processing innovations.

  • Drive hardware–software co-design to optimize performance in embedded audio systems.

  • Develop and optimize adaptive filtering systems for complex acoustic environments.

  • Lead the implementation of neural network architectures for real-time audio processing.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to bring advanced audio technologies from concept to production.

Requirements:

  • PhD or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Digital Signal Processing, or a related field, with a strong focus on audio systems.

  • Deep expertise in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and adaptive filtering methods such as LMS, NLMS, and RLS.

  • Strong understanding of control theory and acoustic feedback systems.

  • Proven experience developing and launching ANC-enabled products.

  • Advanced knowledge of deep learning for audio, including experience with RNNs, LSTMs, or CRNs.

  • Experience optimizing neural networks for real-time and edge deployment on DSPs or NPUs.

  • Strong expertise in spatial audio technologies, including Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs), Ambisonics, and object-based audio.

  • Solid understanding of acoustic engineering challenges in high-noise environments, particularly aviation-related acoustic conditions.

  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for signal processing and system modeling.

  • Strong programming skills in Python (PyTorch or TensorFlow) and C/C++ for embedded DSP development.

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering (audio or aviation focus preferred).

Benefits:

  • Salary: negotiable.
