Our client is a leading cement production company seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a background in the cement industry to join their team in Thabazimbi, LP. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of plant equipment. The position requires aligning mechanical systems and processes with business objectives while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.
Responsibilities:
- Execute and ensure the quality of maintenance work on mechanical equipment within budget, policies, and deadlines.
- Design, develop, and implement mechanical solutions to improve plant performance and minimize downtime.
- Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, including crushers, kilns, and conveyors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize production processes and enhance safety standards.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize equipment failures.
- Provide technical support and training to production staff.
- Optimize maintenance operations using best practices to maximize equipment availability.
- Schedule and allocate resources for day-to-day operations and major overhauls.
- Ensure repaired equipment meets operational requirements, is fully inspected, tested, and safe for use.
- Provide detailed reports on repair jobs, including material consumption, tool usage, man-hours, and equipment history.
- Take appropriate actions during mechanical incidents.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in the cement industry or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and maintenance best practices.
- Expertise in root cause analysis and fault-finding skills.
- Proficiency in hydraulic, pneumatic, and motor circuits.
- Knowledge of gearboxes, transmissions, welding techniques, lubrication, non-destructive tests, and general mechanics.
- Familiarity with the Mine Health and Safety Act, safety regulations, and ISO 9002 quality management methods.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead teams and collaborate across disciplines.
- Hands-on approach, innovative mindset, and self-starter attitude.
