Our client is looking for a Production Manager to join their team in East Rand/Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plastic packaging manufacturing and will be responsible for overseeing the full production process to ensure operational efficiency, adherence to quality standards, and on-time delivery to customers. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring effective resource coordination, staff management, and a continuous improvement mindset within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
Implement and manage production schedules aligned with customer demand
Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless production operations
Allocate resources (personnel, equipment, materials) to maximize output and efficiency
Monitor workflows and production processes, adjusting schedules and addressing bottlenecks
Analyze operations to identify areas for improvement and cost optimization
Conduct root cause analysis of production issues and implement corrective actions
Manage inventory controls to reduce waste and inefficiencies
Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and internal policies
Maintain and update production records and documentation
Lead and supervise production staff, including supervisors and assistants
Conduct performance reviews, training, counselling, and disciplinary processes where necessary
Foster a team-oriented and safety-conscious work culture
Uphold food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) where required
Complete all relevant administrative and reporting duties
Act as a role model and point of contact for your team when unavailable
Commit to ongoing self-development and contribute to team growth
Requirements:
Grade 12 (Matric)
NQF Level 6 qualification in Production Management or Operations Management
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Production Manager role within a manufacturing environment
Proven experience in plastic manufacturing processes
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
High emotional intelligence and effective people management skills
Ability to work under pressure and drive continuous improvement
