A leading online retail company is looking for an innovative Product Development Designer with strong experience in product design, prototyping, and process optimization to join their creative team in Midrand. The ideal candidate will apply industrial design principles to develop, test, and refine products, packaging, and personalization techniques that enhance quality, efficiency, and overall customer experience. This role offers a balance between creativity and hands-on technical work, providing the opportunity to design practical solutions that improve production workflows and bring unique, beautifully crafted products to life.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, refine, and implement jigs, layouts, and die-lines to improve product quality and production efficiency.

  • Research, test, and document new materials, personalization techniques, and production processes.

  • Develop accurate prototypes and samples, including cost analysis and technical documentation.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce waste and streamline packaging and production workflows.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to coordinate product rollouts, samples, and equipment requirements.

  • Train production staff and new employees on templates, personalization methods, and product design updates.

  • Track material and product wastage, providing regular reports and recommending efficiency improvements.

  • Maintain organized records of jigs, templates, and prototypes to ensure smooth operational continuity.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification in Industrial Design or a related field.

  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Interest in packaging, product personalization, and production design workflows.

  • Enthusiasm for hands-on experimentation, prototyping, and continuous learning.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a proactive attitude.
