A leading South African manufacturer specializing in plastic profile extrusion and injection molding is looking for a Maintenance Manager with experience in the manufacturing industry to join their dynamic team in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The Maintenance Manager will oversee the reliability and performance of our machinery, systems, and facilities. This full-time role involves managing preventative maintenance programs, leading a skilled maintenance team, and ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across all operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, proven leadership, and a hands-on approach to maintaining high standards in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Lead, supervise, and support maintenance staff, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Monitor and control maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and procurement of supplies.
  • Ensure all machinery, equipment, and building systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and facility-related breakdowns or issues.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with production and other departments to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Manage service contracts and vendor relationships, including overseeing external contractors.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and operational efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Degree or relevant technical/trade certification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
  • Minimum of 10 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • At least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial maintenance role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage preventative maintenance programs.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets and inventory.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is advantageous.
