A leading Agricultural Produce company is looking for an experienced Agronomist with strong experience in potato production, preferably in field monitoring, data collection, or related crop science to join their team in Marblehall, Limpopo. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically proficient Agronomist to drive field productivity by monitoring crop health, conducting field trials, negotiating raw product contracts, and providing technical support to growers. Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyse comprehensive data on crop health, growth, and environmental factors, reporting all findings to the Senior Agronomist.
- Proactively identify and report all pests, diseases, and stress factors impacting crops.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for growers, providing essential technical support, guidance, and communication regarding quality and regulatory standards.
- Conduct regular quality assessments in the fields and ensure strict adherence and compliance with all company and regulatory standards.
- Negotiate and formalize contracts for raw product procurement, maintaining strong relationships with the grower network.
- Develop and implement detailed harvesting plans, coordinating facility scheduling, determining optimal harvest dates, and arranging transport.
- Maintain and update current records on crop development within the company’s agricultural data systems.
- Actively support and assist in field trials for new crop varieties, including data collection and reporting.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, report environmental risks, and support ongoing sustainability initiatives.
Requirements:
- A Degree in Biological or Agricultural Science is mandatory.
- 3–5 years of field experience is essential, with specific expertise in potato production preferred.
- Proven technical knowledge of crop management practices within the region.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel daily within the region.
