Job Specification: Financial Accountant (Group Finance)

Position Overview:

The financial accountant, based in our Group Finance team, will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining compliance with accounting standards. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyse financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) for the company's group entities.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in adherence to relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Perform financial statement reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies identified.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors during audit processes.
  • Assist in the preparation and consolidation of group budget and forecasts.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of an efficient and effective financial reporting system.
  • Review and analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and performance indicators.
  • Provide financial advice and support to internal stakeholders across the organization.
  • Assist in the preparation of ad-hoc financial reports and presentations as required.
  • Stay updated with changes in accounting standards and ensure compliance in financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, enhance controls, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
  • 1. SAICA Articles Completed and CA(SA) candidates only - salary dependent on qualification and experience
  • Proven experience (5 years) as a financial accountant or similar role, preferably in a group finance function.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (e.g., IFRS, GAAP) with the ability to apply them practically.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications, particularly Excel (advanced level).
  • Experience in financial statement preparation, consolidation, and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders effectively.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • A solid understanding of ERP systems and financial reporting tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is desirable.
  • Experience in working with internal and external auditors during audit processes.
  • Knowledge of tax principles and regulations is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
