Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Regulatory Compliance
Ensure accurate and timely submission of statutory obligations such as PAYE, VAT, and income tax for both individuals and companies.
Handle Workmen’s Compensation filings and renewals.
Liaise with SARS and other regulatory bodies to resolve any compliance issues or audits.
2. Financial Reporting & Management
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
Maintain the accuracy and completeness of financial records through regular general ledger reconciliations and month-end closings.
Ensure integrity in financial reporting processes and data accuracy.
3. Tax Planning and Audit Support
Provide strategic input on tax planning to help minimize liabilities.
Assist with external and internal audits, providing required documentation and insights.
Ensure timely filing of all tax returns and manage related correspondence.
4. Financial Analysis & Insights
Compile detailed financial reports and dashboards for both internal stakeholders and external clients.
Interpret financial data, highlighting key trends, risks, and areas for cost optimization.
Deliver actionable recommendations to support operational and financial improvements.
5. Stakeholder Collaboration
Engage with clients, auditors, tax practitioners, and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless financial operations.
Offer expert advice on accounting best practices and compliance matters.
Build strong working relationships based on trust and financial expertise.
6. Team Supervision and Mentorship
Oversee junior finance team members and provide training and guidance.
Conduct reviews of their work to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial policies.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional Experience:
Minimum of 5 years in a similar accounting or finance role.
Experience in an accounting firm environment is highly advantageous.
Proven track record in tax submissions, compliance, and audit preparation.
Technical Proficiency:
Solid knowledge of accounting principles, statutory compliance, and financial reporting standards.
Hands-on experience with accounting software such as Sage, Pastel, or QuickBooks.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
Core Skills:
Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving capabilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
