Job Description

Hire resolve's client is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Surveyor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil surveying, be proficient with modern surveying equipment, and demonstrate excellent planning, communication, and management skills.


Key Responsibilities:

A. Planning & Preparation

  • Plan daily activities in advance to ensure smooth execution.

  • Ensure all required materials are available before work begins.

  • Monitor progress against set targets and report any deviations.

  • Identify and expose all existing services before starting work each day.

B. Labour Management

  • Provide team leaders and operators with all necessary information before work begins.

  • Maintain team discipline and ensure effective communication.

  • Train students and tachymeters as needed.

  • Foster open communication between all levels of the project team.

C. Equipment & Plant Management

  • Ensure surveying instruments and tools are kept safe, accurate, and well-maintained.

  • Regularly check and report on the condition of instruments.

  • Ensure correct usage of equipment and report any malfunctions or downtime.

  • Properly store and maintain survey equipment.

D. Surveying Duties

  • Verify benchmarks, survey beacons, and connection points for accuracy.

  • Report any discrepancies from the plan or existing site data.

  • Check levels from the previous day before continuing work.

  • Ensure teams have proper line and level to start work efficiently.

  • Identify and report any service clashes (e.g., pipes, utilities).

  • Monitor and verify levels and alignment during pipe laying.

  • Recover survey materials (e.g., droppers and pegs) after work completion.

E. Cost Management

  • Measure daily work progress and complete survey and costing sheets.

  • Correctly allocate cost codes for fuel and labor expenses.

F. Contractual & Compliance Management

  • Set out work accurately according to drawings, specifications, and company standards.

  • Use the latest plan register updates for accuracy.

  • Conduct and record as-built surveys and ground level surveys.

  • Report any discrepancies in site levels or conditions.

  • Uphold quality and safety standards throughout all surveying work.

  • Maintain proper communication with engineers and site management.

G. Public & Client Relations

  • Maintain professional relationships with engineers, clients, and stakeholders.

  • Be mindful of public access and contract-specific requirements.

  • Report potential site access or safety issues to the Site Agent.

H. Additional Duties

  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned, aligned with the employee’s skill set.



Qualifications & Experience:

  • Grade 12 / NQF4 (or a relevant tertiary qualification is beneficial)

  • 1 to 3+ years of surveying experience on civil projects

  • Valid driver’s license (Code EB or higher)

Key Requirements:

  • Proven track record of successfully completed civil projects

  • Knowledge of construction methods (SANS 1200)

  • Proficiency in civil survey techniques using dumpy level, laser level, total station, and GPS

  • Strong time management and communication skills
